Emma Sheehan (b. 1995) is an artist based in rural New South Wales, where she works from her home studio in Jugiong. She earned a Graduate Certificate in Interior Design and Decoration from the Inchbald School of Design in London (2021) and a Master’s Degree in Art Curating from the University of Sydney (2018).
Emma’s practice is deeply personal, exploring themes drawn from her own experiences and a lifelong appreciation for colour, pattern, textiles, and ceramics. Her approach is strongly influenced by the colour theory and pattern mixing she studied during her interior design course, which continue to inform her artistic decisions. Emma is passionate about the importance of art within the home, believing it plays a vital role in creating spaces that inspire, comfort, and reflect individuality. Her still lifes are shaped by memories of her mother’s culinary skills and her aunt’s renowned kitchenware store in Woollahra, Sydney. Known for her vivid palettes, Emma selects colours intuitively and constructs her compositions with intent, resulting in works that are both energetic and refined.
Emma approaches familiar subjects through a contemporary lens, focusing on their vitality rather than perfect form. She arranges objects—often from memory and imagination—on tablescapes, thoughtfully refining each position to achieve balance and harmony. Her work is defined by a playful, experimental engagement with colour and pattern, inviting viewers to experience joy and discovery.
